The critical moment Lucy recognised things needed to change & found the path to do so with INNU.
"Before I began INNU’s Burnout Heroes program and met my coach Sharni, I was incredibly angry. I felt frustrated, misunderstood and undervalued. It was paralysing. I felt helpless and out of control with zero ability to change my circumstances.
I was doing strategy work at RMB, where I have worked for the past 10 years, but I was frustrated because I was asked to execute, but I did not feel I had a seat at the table to shape the direction of what strategy should even mean. I was working hard but I did not see the point of what I was doing, which is what led to me burning out.
…and let me be clear, I am a type A work-hard person with no off button. When there’s a reason behind working hard and I’m adding value, I love it. But this time was different. I didn’t see the point in why I was working hard. I felt undervalued, misplaced and like nothing I did was relevant or worth it."

Stepping back into her power.
"When I connected with Sharni, my coach who led me through INNU’s Burnout Hero's program, I was trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life. It was the perfect time where I could step back into my power, put things in perspective and walk the journey with tools."
Learning how to break through anger and set boundaries.
"For me, my greatest learning was when my coach Sharni helped me realise that I was looking for things in the wrong place. I stopped being angry at a person and realised my journey with that person was at an end. The way they saw me capped what we could further achieve together. I stopped being resentful or carrying anger and moved on.
I used to bottle up my emotions and not say anything. It was a big challenge for me… to raise an objection or call out before getting to the point of anger. Passion is important, but so is the ability to not fly off the hinge.
Now, I am more calm and even toned. I see anger for what it is - that my boundaries are being crossed and I need to do something about it.
I also no longer beat myself up if I don’t retain boundaries and go into a cycle of insecurity or self-judgment. For me, boundaries are only effective if you maintain them. It’s about building them and not beating myself up. I also realise there will be flexibility in boundaries."
"The way they saw me capped what we could further achieve together. I stopped being resentful or carrying anger and moved on."
The path to reclaiming control lay in creating the position of her dreams & getting paid for the value she brings.
"My biggest milestone was being appointed to the position I now have. The position didn’t exist before. I created it! I now report to my boss' boss. With my coach's support, I pitched being head of strategy to the head of the bank and now here I am. :)
A big part of my journey has been self validation, but it’s also a huge plus when people understand value and recognised that I can drive strategy at an executive level.
And I didn’t expect a team. I’m managing 4 people, which is not enormous, but in the context of constrained resources, it's a BIG deal. I have ambitions to double my team size."
Unlocking the next level of success & happiness
"The 1st three weeks of Burnout Heroes, everything spoke to exactly what I was going through. It was profound realising I am not the only person going through this and I could find my way back to myself.
I learned to be ok with the fact that things don’t have to be ok. I learned to create space for myself when I knew I needed to pull back. Now, I’m ok telling my family (husband, 5 year old and 7 year old) I need ten minutes when no one can talk to me. The media talks a lot about helping children self-regulate, but what about adults?"
Feeling stuck & helpless in your role? Want help breaking through to the next level?
"My biggest milestone was securing the position I have now, which didn't exist before. I created it! I now report to my boss' boss. And mind you, we’ve never had a stand-alone strategic function, ever."
Naming the biggest risk of not taking action & joining INNU's Burnout Heroes program.
"It’s difficult to find a sounding board that’s empathetic but also objective, compared to other people in your life. I could have made choices in anger instead of choices that were well thought out. I would have made choices that would have put me in a different place than I am in now.
Also, if I left the bank and went somewhere else, I don’t have knowledge on legacy on issues, I have to build a brand & connections, which is stressful. If I didn’t change my habits, going somewhere else would have put me in the same circumstances that lead to me burning out."

Sharni Quinn as a Burnout Heroes coach & what made her coaching style unique
"I loved Sharni’s energy. We got on really well. She really got me and was interested in me as a person and not just as a client.
For me, what was really important was her understanding where could make slight adjustments to the program to suit me better. I had a coach before that was very structured and pushed me to do a process I found unsettling. Sharni actually coached me through how to bring it up with the coach in a way that wasn’t aggressive. She was very empathetic to what I actually needed. We even found a way to explore what was unsettling about the other experience, which led to a big breakthrough for me because Sharni actually listened to what I needed versus forcing me to follow the program strictly for the program’s sake."
The most helpful part of learning about burnout for Lucy.
"A lot of what I learned through Burnout Heroes was being able to describe where I was in terms of burnout. You can say you’re burning out but what does that mean for you? Unless you know what burnout actually is, you can’t do anything about it. We use the term burnout flippantly in that way.
What was great about INNU’s Burnout Heroes program is the program works under the premise that you already have the tools to get to where you need, you just need help to access them.
Burnout is paralysing. You feel helpless, and out of control with zero ability to change it. Burnout Heroes re-empowered me with all things I had but I didn’t know where to find them."
